DESCRIPTION: A bacterium induced gall that results in the woody tissue of the host to become swollen and of a varying size dependant on the environmental conditions. The galls seem to be erupting from the host with the surface of each gall uneven. The causative organism is capable of stimulating rapid cell growth so that the resulting tumours can be of a vast size. DISTRIBUTION: Very common and often numerous in one particular area. HABITAT: A common growth on a variety of woody and herbaceous species including Beech and Silver Birch. |
